SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel west this weekend for matches at Utah State and San Jose State. The Roadrunners will face the Aggies at 4 p.m. (CT) on Friday before taking on the Spartans at 2 p.m. (CT) two days later.

UTSA (1-7-2, 0-0-2 WAC) opened Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play with ties against Seattle and Idaho last weekend. It marked the first time in school history that the squad had played back-to-back overtime contests.

Sophomore Liv Nyhegn gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead against the Redhawks before the visitors came up with the equalizer in the 80th minute. Against the Vandals, it was UTSA that rallied from a 1-0 deficit to earn a tie when freshman Kauwela Neal found the back of the net in the 79th minute.

Seven different players have scored for the Roadrunners this season and junior Maria Jose Rojas leads the team with five points (one goal/three assists).

Utah State (5-2-6, 0-0-2 WAC) played a pair of scoreless ties at New Mexico State and Denver last weekend. In fact, five of the the Aggies' last six outings have ended in a draw. Utah State ranks second in the WAC with just eight goals allowed and none of its opponents have scored more than once in its 13 contests. Jennifer Flynn (three goals) and Mari Mlyashiro (two goals/two assists) lead the squad with six points apiece, while Ashlyn Mulford has 50 stops and a 0.57 goals-against average between the pipes.

Meanwhile, San Jose State (3-7-1, 1-1) will host Texas State on Friday night before facing the Roadrunners. The Spartans split their two matches last weekend by falling at Denver, 4-0, before a 1-0 overtime victory at New Mexico State that snapped a six-match losing streak. Mikaella Meibock paces the team with eight points on four goals, while seven other players have one winner apiece. Goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis has started the last four contests and has recorded 28 stops in nearly 450 minutes of action this season.

UTSA and Utah State have split their two previous meetings with the Roadrunners claiming a 1-0 triumph on Sept. 11, 2009. The Birds and San Jose State will be meeting for the first time.
