Fish, Pew named to Conference USA All-Academic Team
IRVING — Samantha Fish and Lindsey Pew both were named to Conference USA's 11-member Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team on Wednesday.
Fish, who maintains a 3.92 GPA in interdisciplinary studies, earned her second league academic award of the year, as she was one of seven cross country athletes honored back in November.
The Los Fresnos native saw action in 10 meets (5 indoor/5 outdoor) in her final campaign as a Roadrunner and she wrapped up her career with a fifth-place performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the C-USA Outdoor Championships. Fish won her specialty event at the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational and was second at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight (PR 10:51.02). She also added a silver medal in the 3k at the UTSA Invitational (PR 10:20.62).
Her other career academic accolades include being a four-time member of the UTSA President’s List (4.00 GPA), 2013 Western Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree and 2012 Southland Conference All-Academic pick.
Meanwhile, Pew posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in multidisciplinary studies in her first year at UTSA.
The junior college transfer from Mesa, Ariz., has competed in 16 meets (9 outdoor/7 indoor) in the pole vault this season and qualified for this weekend's NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds in Fayetteville, Ark. She has set both the indoor (12-10 ¾/3.93m) and outdoor program records this year in addition to winning two outdoor meets to go along with six other podium finishes. Pew placed fourth at both conference meets this year.
