NEW ORLEANS, La. — Fabiola Arriaga and Brogan Townend are tied for 24th at one-over-par 145 and the UTSA women's golf team is in 16th place after the first two rounds of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, which began on Monday at English Turn Golf & Country Club (par 72/6,140 yards).

The 17-team field, which includes 13 ranked in the top 50, played 36 holes on Monday after Sunday's opening round was postponed due to heavy rains.

Arriaga was steady in round one, as the senior wrote down par on 15 holes and sandwiched a birdie on the par-three eighth around her only two bogeys for a 73. In the second 18, the Torreon, Mexico, native recorded three birdies en route to a 72.

Meanwhile, Townend opened with a 75 but the sophomore used four birdies — three on the front nine — to post a two-under 70, the Roadrunners' best round of the day.

Taylor Newlin is tied for 56th (73-77—150), Chelsea Bretcher is tied for 87th (80-81—161) and Aimee Ponte is 89th (83-79—162) to round out the UTSA lineup.

The Roadrunners carded a 301-298—599 and they are in just one shot behind No. 34 Mississippi State (598), two back of Bayor (597) and three behind Mississippi (596).

No. 2 UCLA holds the 36-hole lead at 14-under 562 (285-277), followed by top-ranked Southern California (566), No. 18 Florida (572), No. 12 Oklahoma State (577) and No. 9 Alabama (577).

Tonje Daffinrud of Denver and Erynne Lee of UCLA are tied for the individual lead at seven-under 137.

The third and final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
