INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The UTSA women’s golf team was recognized by the NCAA on Wednesday with a Public Recognition Award for its outstanding multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR).

The Roadrunners have recorded a perfect APR score of 1,000 each of the last four years to rank among the top 10 percent of all Division I women’s golf programs. A total of 976 teams (594 women’s/382 men’s) across all sports earned the distinction from the NCAA with APRs ranging from 978 to 1,000.

"One of our top priorities has always been the recruiting process, specifically to find great student-athletes who perform well on the golf course and in the classroom,” head women’s golf coach Carrie Parnaby said. “We also are committed to making sure they will fit in with the culture and chemistry on our team and at UTSA and to represent the university in a first class manner. Our squad works hard every day and we are proud to be recognized by the NCAA for our success."

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The rate measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-2012 academic years.

In addition to their success in the classroom, the Roadrunners have competed in three consecutive NCAA Regionals and won back-to-back Southland Conference Championships in 2011-12. This season, the women’s golf team earned the school’s first at-large bid to an NCAA postseason event and achieved its highest final ranking in program history.
