Roadrunners women to play pair of matches this weekend
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue its spring campaign this weekend with a pair of matches. The Roadrunners will travel to I-35 rival Texas State for their Western Athletic Conference opener at 12 p.m. on Friday before returning back to the Alamo City to host former Southland Conference foe Northwestern State at 10 a.m. two days later.
UTSA (3-1) is coming off a 6-1 victory against Incarnate Word on Wednesday. The Roadrunners won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to cruise past the 29th-ranked Cardinals.
Jacobea Junger and Isabelle Jonsson each have started out the season with perfect 4-0 records in singles action, while the duo of Junger and Daniela Garcia-Diaz are undefeated in three contests at the No. 2 doubles spot.
The Bobcats (2-1) dropped a 6-1 decision to Houston last Sunday. Prior to the loss, Texas State posted wins against Texas-Pan American (Feb. 2) and St. Edward's (Feb. 3).
Meanwhile, the Lady Demons (2-2) were dealt a 6-1 by SMU on Monday. Northwestern State also has wins over Abilene Christian (Feb. 1) and Southern Mississippi (Feb. 9) and a loss at LSU (Jan. 26).
