ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Sophomore catcher Megan Low and senior pitcher Haylee Staton were named preseason All-Western Athletic Conference, while the circuit's head coaches picked UTSA to finish in fourth place, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Low also totaled 17 multi-hit and seven-multi RBI games.

Meanwhile, Staton was named third-team All-Southland last season after posting a record of 15-8 with a 2.54 ERA in the circle. The Austin native recorded a career-high 151 strikeouts, which ranked fourth in the league, and her 15 wins were the most by a UTSA hurler since 2006. She tallied double-digit punchouts four times, including a career-best 12 in a victory against North Dakota.

The Roadrunners received 30 votes in the preseason poll to rank behind Texas State (43), San Jose State (42) and New Mexico State (39). The Bobcats garnered five first-place votes to edge the Spartans, who received a pair of first-place votes. Louisiana Tech (22), Utah State (20), UT Arlington (15) and Seattle (13) rounded out the rankngs.

UTSA returns eight letterwinners from last year’s squad that won 24 games and tied for third in the Southland. The Birds open their 22nd season of play next weekend with a three-game series at Lamar (Feb. 9-10).
