SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its lone campaign in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) this weekend with home matches against Seattle and Idaho. The Roadrunners will face the Redhawks at 7 p.m. on Friday before matching up with the Vandals at 1 p.m. two days later.

UTSA enters its inaugural WAC contest with a 1-7 record after dropping consecutive one-goal matches at Houston and Miami (Fla.). Five different players have accounted for the Roadrunners’ five goals this season, while junior Maria Jose Rojas leads the squad with four points (one goal, two assists). Freshman goalie Katarina Pus ranks second in the league with 46 saves and she is averaging 5.75 stops per contest.

Picked to finish third in the conference’s preseason poll, Seattle (5-5) comes to the Alamo City following Sunday's 4-2 victory against Utah Valley. Prior to that victory, the Redhawks had dropped a pair of matches on the road against top 25 opponents, including a double-overtime loss at No. 21 Oregon State. Taylor Ritzman and Melissa Busque lead the team with four goals apiece and the Redhawks rank third in the WAC with 15 winners overall, as well as third in points (43) and assists (13).

Idaho (3-9) will face Texas State (3-7-1) on Friday night in San Marcos before taking the short drive down IH-35 for Sunday’s tilt. The Vandals were picked to finish fifth in the WAC preseason poll and they are led by seniors Chelsea Small, Megan Lopez and Jill Flockhart, who have started all 74 career matches with the team. Small (three goals) and Meli Cortez (two goals/two assists) pace the squad with six points apiece. Meanwhile, Liz Boyden has earned starts in 11 of the club's dozen contests and she leads the league with 53 saves.

The Roadrunners will be facing both squads for the first time in program history.
