FRISCO — Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox was named Southland Conference Outdoor Coach of the Year, the league office announced on Thursday.

It marks the third time in the last five years that the 10th-year head coach has won the award and he now owns a total of 10 during his career, as he has been named the circuit's indoor coach of the year the last seven seasons. Fox is the only coach in Southland history to sweep the honors in three different campaigns.

Led by individual championships from junior All-American Richard Garrett Jr. (shot put) and sophomore Keyunta Hayes (110m hurdles/400m hurdles), UTSA held off a late charge from I-35 rival Texas State to win the program's fourth Southland title in school history last weekend in San Marcos. The Roadrunners scored 147.5 points, which was 13 more than the Bobcats, and it marked their third indoor/outdoor sweep in the last five seasons. The trio of gold medal performances pushed the program's all-time total to 52 and 25 of those have come since Fox took over the program in 2003.

UTSA will be back in action next weekend when it begins competition at the NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds in Austin. The three-day meet gets underway on Thursday, May 24, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
