Roadrunners to wrap up season this weekend against Lamar
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will close out its 2012 campaign this weekend with a three-game Southland Conference series against Lamar at Roadrunner Field. Thursday's opener begins at 6 p.m., while the second contest starts at 6 p.m. the following night. Saturday's finale, which also will serve as Senior Day, is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Five seniors — Colby Braddock, Justin Graham, Matthew James, P.D. McIntyre, Jason Mohn and Casey Selsor — will be honored for their contributions to the program before Saturday's game.
The Roadrunners (21-30, 10-19 SLC) enter the final set of the spring on the heels of a 14-3 loss at No. 4 Baylor on Tuesday night.
Selsor comes into his final weekend at UTSA as the team leader in batting average. The San Antonio native is hitting .304 with 10 doubles, eight triples, a home run and 27 RBIs in addition to leading the squad with 16 stolen bases. Meanwhile, junior Ryan Dalton is batting .302 with 11 doubles, seven round-trippers and 34 RBIs.
Selsor (4-7, 4.92 ERA) will make the start on the mound in Thursday's tilt, while sophomore Michael Kraft (8-5, 4.50 ERA) is scheduled to start in Saturday's contest. A starter has not been named for Friday night's game.
The Cardinals (20-29, 12-18 SLC) have lost three of their last four outings, including two of three to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last weekend in Beaumont.
Lamar's offense boasts three hitters over the .300 mark, including Darian Johnson, who is hitting at a .318 clip with a dozen doubles, four homers and 21 RBIs.
Left-hander Jonathan Dziedzic (4-4, 3.66 ERA) will take the mound in Thursday's opener and he will be followed by right-handers Eric Harrington (3-8, 4.14 ERA) and Carter Hahn (3-3, 4.12 ERA) in the rotation.
UTSA holds a 25-24 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1996 campaign. The Roadrunners have won four consecutive meetings with the Cardinals, including back-to-back walk-off victories to complete last spring series at the Bird Bath.
