FRISCO — Senior Lewis Chong was named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Men’s Golf Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

The honor is the first of Chong’s career and the first for a Roadrunner since Thomas Kearney in 2007. He joins Student-Athlete of the Year Cedric Scotto of Southeastern Louisiana, UT Arlington's Hunter Brown, Lamar's Xavier Feyaerts and Stephen F. Austin's Kyle Robbins on the five-man team.

Chong graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics with a 3.43 cumulative GPA earlier this month. He has been named to the UTSA Dean’s List (3.75 semester GPA or higher) twice during his academics career and is a two-time Southland Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.

On the course, Chong earned honorable mention all-conference accolades in April after registering a 76 stroke average in 36 rounds as a senior, which ranked second on the team. The Lethbridge, Alberta, native turned in a 75.38 average in the spring and wrapped up his final campaign with a career-best ninth-place finish after firing a two-over-par 218 (72-71-75) at the Southland Conference Championship. Chong carded a season-best 217 (70-73-74) in tying for 21st at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in February and posted a 13th-place scorecard of 221 (73-73-75) at the Jim West Intercollegiate.
