|Junior Ryan Hutson was 9-for-12 with three homers and seven RBIs last weekend.
After a weekend that saw him reach base in 12 of his 15 plate appearances, junior Ryan Hutson was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Hutson helped lead UTSA to their second consecutive conference sweep over the weekend against McNeese State, which pushed its winning streak to a season-best six games. The Round Rock native was 9-of-12 (.750 BA) with seven runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and seven RBIs. He also walked three times for an .800 on-base percentage and his 20 total bases translated to a 1.667 slugging percentage. The second baseman recorded a trifecta of three-hit games and left the park in all three contests.
Hutson, who is hitting a team-best .360 on the season with 14 homers and 42 RBIs, now has 38 career home runs and that is tied with Michael Rockett (2006-09) for third place on the program’s all-time list. He enters the final week of the regular season riding an eight-game hit streak in which he is 20-for-32 (.625 BA) with four home runs and nine RBIs.
The Roadrunners (20-27, 11-19 SLC), two games behind Nicholls (13-17 SLC) for the eighth and final spot in this month's Southland Tournament, begin their final league series of spring on Thursday night at Central Arkansas (18-32-1, 9-20-1 SLC). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at UCA Field.
