Arriaga cards 77 on first day of NCAA West Regional
CLE ELUM, Wash. — Fabiola Arriaga carded a five-over-par 77 in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional, which began on Thursday at Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort (par 72/6,252 yards).
The Torreon, Mexico, native teed off on No. 10 and opened with a double-bogey on the par-4 10th, but got one stroke back with a birdie on the par-5 15th en route to 37 on her first nine.
Making her school-record fourth NCAA postseason appearance, Arriaga settled for a quartet of bogeys on the front side as part of a 40. Her 77 puts her in a 13-way tie for 62nd in the 126-player field with 36 holes remaining on each of the next two days.
Kyung Kim of USC shot a 6-under 66 and holds a one-shot lead ahead of Noemi Jimenez (Arizona State) and Marijosse Navarro (Texas A&M) in the individual standings. USC leads the 24-team field after firing a 4-under 284.
Arriaga will tee off in round two at 10:25 a.m. (CT) on Friday.
