SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's track & field team will have seven entries at this weekend's NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds in Austin. The three-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Thursday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of The University of Texas (click here for a complete meet schedule).

Leading the way will be long jumper Roscoe Robinson, who is coming off a gold-medal performance of 24-11 (7.59m) at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships. One of four Roadrunners in program history to surpass the 25-foot barrier, he registered a school-record measurement of 25-9 ¼ (7.85m) on March 29 at the Trinity Tigers Relays. That stands as the nation's 11th-longest measurement this season and it ranks sixth in West Region. The Huntsville, Mo., native has won three of his five outings this spring and both of his non-victories have been runner-up efforts. Robinson will try to advance to the national semifinals in Eugene, Ore., when competition begins at 1:30 p.m. on the meet's opening day.

Joshua Smith will enter the event with the country's 19th-fastest time (12th West Region) in the 400-meter hurdles, a career-best 51:09 that came in a silver-medal finish two weeks ago at the conference meet. He will be joined by teammate Jurmarcus Shelvin, who placed third at the league meet with a PR of 51.86. First-round competition is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Thursday and the top three finishers in each of the six heats, as well as the next nine fastest times, will advance to the national quarterfinals, which are slated for 7:45 p.m. the following night.

Christopher Hall is the Roadrunners' only dual individual qualifier, as he will run in both the 200m and 400m. Hall, who recorded a pair of fifth-place showings in the two events at the WAC Championships, owns career-bests of 21.31 and 47.13 this spring. The opening round of the quarter is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. on Thursday (quarterfinals at 6:15 p.m. on Friday), while the deuce will be contested at 8:25 p.m. the following night (quarters at 7:50 p.m. on Saturday).

WAC Freshman of the Year Jonas Gutierrez will compete in the 110m hurdles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Weslaco native is coming off a bronze-medal performance at the league meet and he has finished no worse than third (two seconds/two thirds) in four of his five races this season. His career-best time of 14.28 came two weeks ago in the conference prelims. The national quarterfinals are slated for 7:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Hall, Shelvin and Smith will be joined by James Pailin in the 1,600m relay. The quartet owns a season-best time of 3:10.06 and is coming off a third-place showing at the WAC Championships. The meet will conclude with the event at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday.
