Newlin leads Roadrunners at Texas A&M-UTSA Shootout on Wednesday
BRYAN — Junior Taylor Newlin carded a 153 (80-73) on Wdnesday and she finished in second place at the Texas A&M-UTSA Shootout, which was played at Miramont Country Club (par 72/6,032 yards).
The No. 22 Aggies won the event with a 613 (303-310), while No. 49 UTSA fired a 625 (320-305).
Newlin started her day with an 80 in the first round, but she came back with a 73 in the next 18 holes.
Senior Paola Valerio notched her best round of 74 in the morning before an 82 to finish tied for fifth at 156.
Meanwhile, junior Fabiola Arriaga shaved 14 strokes off of her opening-round total to card a 72 in the afternoon, which was the lowest round of the event. The Torreon, Mexico, native finished in sixth place at 158 (86-72).
Freshmen Brogan Townend (80-80) and individual Allie Johnston (84-76) tied for ninth at 160, while junior Chelsea Bretcher rounded out the lineup with a 167 (87-80).
Texas A&M's Sarah Beth Davis took home individual medalist honors with a 150 (75-75).
UTSA will return to the links next weekend at the Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational. The three-day event will tee off on Friday, April 5.
