SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to improve on its unbeaten start to the spring campaign when it hosts Houston and St. Edward's this weekend. The Roadrunners will match up with the Cougars at 1 p.m. on Friday before taking on the Hilltoppers at 11 a.m. the following day.
UTSA (2-0) posted a pair of decisive victories last weekend against Laredo Community College and Texas-Pan American. The Birds swept the Palominos last Saturday and then recorded a 5-2 win over the Broncs a day later.
The Roadrunners have started out perfect in doubles play, while the singles contingent has posted a combined 10-2 mark in the first two contests.
Isabelle Jonsson and Jacobea Junger both are 2-0 in singles competition.
Houston enters Friday's contest with a 3-2 record. The Cougars split a pair of matches last weekend, including a sweep of Southern Mississippi in their Conference USA opener last Saturday.
Maja Kazimieruk leads Houston with a 6-0 mark in singles action, while Jo Garvey and Elena Kordolaimi own a 4-1 record to lead the doubles teams.
St. Edward's, which is ranked 21st in the ITA/NCAA Division II poll, lost its only match this spring, a 6-1 decision at Texas State last Sunday.
The Hilltoppers picked up their only point at No. 3 singles when Rafaela Haegele netted a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) victory against Rachel Baldree.
The Cougars have won the last two meetings against UTSA, including a sweep last Feb. 12 in Houston.
Meanwhile, UTSA has won the last three meetings against St. Edward's, including a 4-3 decision on Feb. 4, 2010, in the Alamo City.
