Three future Roadrunners to play in Tuesday's THSCA All-Star Game
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Football signees Treston Coleman (Frankston, Texas/Frankston HS), Skylar Nelson (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights HS) and Tre Rosser (Clarksville, Texas/Clarksville HS) will play in the annual Texas High School Coaches All-Star Game on Tuesday evening at their future home, the Alamodome. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. and it can be seen live on FOX Sports Southwest.
Coleman is coming off a senior season that saw him earn first-team Class 2A all-state, second-team All-East Texas and District 9-2A Offensive Most Valuable Player honors. The 5-foot-10, 230-pound running back rushed for a school-record 2,096 yards and 28 touchdowns in 11 games of action and he also racked up 392 receiving yards and three scores. Coleman was a first-team all-district selection as a junior after running the ball 153 times for 1,428 yards (9.3 avg.) and 15 TDs to go along with 13 receptions for 242 yards (18.6 avg.) and two more scores. He toted the ball 94 times for 594 yards and one TD as a sophomore.
Nelson finished his career as a second-team Class 4A all-state honoree, two-time San Antonio Express-News all-area selection and two-time District 27-4A Defensive Most Valuable Player. The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder racked up 181 tackles, 13 TFLs, three sacks and seven QB hurries as a senior. He also forced four fumbles, recovered two, picked off three passes and blocked a pair of kicks that season. Nelson recorded 169 stops, including 23 for loss, five pass breakups, one fumble recovery and a forced fumble as a junior.
Rosser, who saw action at quarterback and defensive back during his prep career, helped lead Clarksville High to consecutive District 6-1A Championships in his final two seasons. The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder earned 2011 third-team Class 1A all-state accolades and was a two-time District 6-1A and Red River Valley Most Valuable Player selection. He completed 70-of-119 passes (58.8 percent) for 1,524 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior and added 1,011 rushing yards and a dozen scores on 117 carries that season. Rosser also racked up 82 tackles (53 solos/29 assists) and a 95-yard fumble return to paydirt in 2011. That came on the heels of a junior campaign that saw him post 1,120 passing yards and 17 touchdowns and 1,256 rushing yards and 15 scores. He accounted for 1,657 yards (925 rush/732 pass) of total offense as a sophomore in 2009 and was tabbed the District 12-2A Newcomer of the Year as a freshman after passing for 649 yards and a half dozen TDs to go along with 699 yards and seven scores on the ground.
Coleman and Nelson will suit up for the "Red" team, which will be coached by Cibolo Steele head coach Mike Jinks. Meanwhile, Rosser will be a part of the "Black" squad led by Abilene Wylie head coach Hugh Sandifer.
