MCKINNEY Junior-to-be Taylor Newlin posted a pair of match play wins on Thursday in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the Women's Texas Golf Association (WTGA) State Amateur Championship, which is being played on the Dye Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.

Newlin edged Dallas native Talia Campbell 2 and 1 in the morning's quarterfinal round to advance to the afternoon semifinal. There she faced five-time state amateur and 2010 USGA Senior Women's Amatuer Champion Mina Hardin.

The Frisco native came away with a 5 and 4 victory to advance to Friday's championship match, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. In the other semifinal, Emily Collins, who will be a junior at Oklahoma this fall, defeated former Winthrop golfer Rachel Smith 3 and 2 to complete the final pairing.
