Roadrunners in eighth place after third day of Conference USA Championships

HOUSTON — Whitney Flannel placed third in the high jump to lead UTSA on Saturday at the Conference USA Championships.

The junior from West Columbia cleared 5-9 ¼ (1.76m) in her specialty event to give the Roadrunners six points.

Meanwhile, Ernestine Cray added another five points to the team total with her fourth-place performance in the long jump. The San Antonio native broke the sand in a career-best 19-11 (6.07m).

The squad's other points of the day came from Samantha Fish, who clocked an 11:01.12 en route to fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Nina Herrera and Emily Perez advanced to Sunday's 1,500m final, Kaila James qualified in the 400m hurdles and the duo of Stephanie Wangui and Grace Williamson moved on in the 800m.

UTSA stands in eighth place in the team standings with 15 points. East Carolina sits atop the field through seven scored events with 50.

The four-day meet will come to a close on Sunday.
