HOUSTON — UTSA picked up 22 points on Friday and the Roadrunners stand in third place after three scored events at this weekend's Conference USA Championships.

UTSA opened the day with a combined 16 points in the hammer throw.

Leading the way was Phil Steinert, who placed second with a toss of 189-1 (57.43m). Richard Garrett Jr. (179-6/54.71m) and Andris Vistins (179-0/54.55m) were fifth and sixth, respectively, while Jared Tyler scratched out a point with his eighth-place effort (PR 163-0/49.68m).

The Roadrunners' other six points of the day came from Levi Jordan and Ryan Roberts in the decathlon.

Jordan, who entered the second day of action in 13th place in the 14-man field, racked up 6,285 points during the two-day event, 3,344 of which came on Friday (best second-day score). His score was good for fifth place and it was bolstered by the day's top discus (148-2/45.16m) and pole vault (15-1/4.60m) performances, as well as the second-best javelin throw (171-9/52.36m).

Meanwhile, Roberts accounted for 6.249 points en route to a seventh-place finish.

East Carolina and UTEP sit atop the team standings with 24 points.

The four-day meet continues at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
