Roadrunners to conclude regular season on Sunday at No. 21 Rice
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will conclude its regular season on the road on Sunday at No. 21 Rice. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Jack Hess Tennis Stadium.
The Roadrunners (11-9) ended its two-match losing streak in dramatic fashion on Thursday with a 4-3, come-from-behind victory at Tulane.
After falling into an early 3-0 hole against the Green Wave, the Birds rallied behind singles wins from Irene Gandara Gonazalez, Isabelle Jonsson, Lina Hallgren and Nicole Karaklis. The deciding point came from Karaklis, who clinched her victory at the No. 4 spot with a pair of 6-3 triumphs in the last two sets after dropping the first, 6-4.
However, Miriam Rosell Canudas’s streak of 11 consecutive singles victories came to an end after losing to Ipek Birol. The freshman still leads the team with a 16-4 record this season.
Rice (13-6) saw its seven-match winning streak was snapped on Wednesday with a 4-3 loss to 17th-ranked Baylor. No. 109 Dominique Harmath leads the Owls with 16 singles wins, including 11 straight. Meanwhile, Alison Ho has been victorious in her last eight outings and is 15-4 this spring.
Rice swept UTSA last season on Feb. 28 in the Alamo City.
