UTSA to host I-35 rival Texas State on Wednesday night
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will host I-35 rival and former conference mate Texas State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Roadrunner Field.
The contest will be the first of three home midweek games remaining for the Roadrunners (18-21), who are coming off a 2-2 week that included wins against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Charlotte.
Jori Fox led UTSA during that stretch by hitting .533 (8-of-15) with a triple, home run and seven RBIs to bring her season total to 32 RBIs, which is tied with Megan Low for the team lead. The San Antonio native owns a .327 average, while Low checks in at .391 with an NCAA-leading 16 home runs. UTSA also hit two grand slams during the week and have hit six slams by six different players this season. The team continues to lead Conference USA with 49 round-trippers.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats (21-20) are coming off a series win against then-No. 11 South Alabama last week. Three players are batting better than .300 for Texas State, including Courtney Harris’ team-high .342 mark. The junior also owns eight doubles, five homers and 19 RBIs on the campaign. Kortney Koroll paces the team with six homers, while Kendall Wiley’s 27 RBIs lead the way. In the circle, Rayn House has thrown nearly 70 percent of the team’s innings and she owns an 18-13 mark with a 2.43 ERA and 171 strikeouts.
Texas State leads the all-time series, 39-37, but UTSA has won four of the last five meetings and holds a 21-16 advantage in San Antonio. The Bobcats took an 8-0 decision against the Roadrunners when the teams met on Feb. 19 in San Marcos.
