SAN ANTONIO — Issiah Grayson scored a career-high 31 points to lead visiting Bakersfield to a 90-64 victory at UTSA on Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.

Keon Lewis paced UTSA (3-7) with 17 points, while Jordan Sims tied a season-best with 16. Sims finished 6-of-8 from the floor and connected on four of his five 3-point attempts. Phillip Jones dealt with early foul trouble but managed a career-high 13 points, with 11 coming the second half.

UTSA shot 46.5 percent for the contest, including 50 percent in the second half, and totaled 24 points in the paint.

Meanwhile, Grayson went 10-of-13 from the floor and hit 6-of-7 from behind the arc to go along with five free throws for Bakersfield (6-6), which snapped a five-game losing streak. Tyrell Corbin finished with 15 points and Aly Ahmed and Javonte Maynor chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Bakersfield shot 58 percent on the night, including 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from behind the arc to go along with a perfect 20-for-20 outing at the free-throw line.

Ahmed opened the scoring with a layup inside that was answered by a bucket from Jones to set the stage for a first half that featured four ties and 10 lead changes.

After Ahmed’s basket down low, Bakersfield hit three of its next four jumpers, including the first of six 3-pointers for Grayson. His triple followed back-to-back treys by Sims which gave UTSA its first leads of the game.

A steal by Tyler Wood led to a layup from Edrico McGregor and Kaj-Björn Sherman added a pair of free throws on UTSA’s next possession for a 12-9 advantage that was quickly evened out on another Grayson 3-pointer.

The Bakersfield lead grew to 19-15 before Lewis scored six consecutive points to push UTSA to its final lead of the opening stanza.

The visitors ended the UTSA spurt with another triple, this time from Maynor. After Devon Agusi hit a 3-pointer in the corner to knot the score at 27, Bakersfield went on a 9-1 for its largest lead of the half, 36-28.

UTSA pulled within four on free throws from Agusi and with two more freebies from Lewis, the home squad trailed 39-34 at intermission.

Bakersfield ensured that UTSA would get no closer in the second half. The visitors opened the period on a 16-6 run for a 55-40 advantage and UTSA could not trim the deficit to single digits the rest of the way.

The home Roadrunners got as close as 11 on four occasions, but Bakersfield answered the call each time with a bucket or run of its own.

With 8:15 to go, Sims got an offensive rebound and put-back to cap a quick 6-0 spurt for UTSA to pull within 65-54, but Grayson answered with a 3-point play that ignited an 18-5 run to build a 24-point margin and put the game away.

UTSA will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Sunday when it hosts Georgia State (4-6).
