SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue its fall season this weekend at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth. The five-day tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday at Bayard Friedman Tennis Center.
The singles and doubles champions from the 12 regional championships (Atlantic, Carolina, Central, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, Northwest, Ohio Valley, Southeast, Southern, Southwest, Texas) will advance to the 2013 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which will take place from Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Columbia University will serve as the tournament host.
UTSA opened its fall campaign with a total of 28 victories (17 singles/11 doubles) at last weekend's Wildcats Invitational.
Freshman Miriam Rosell Canudas stood out with a solid first outing as a Roadrunner. She advanced to Sunday's Wildcat Flight championship final where she lost to Arizona's Akilah James in three sets (6-3, 6-7, 6-3).
