SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to take the momentum from the unbeaten opening weekend of Conference USA play this weekend when it faces fellow league newcomers Charlotte and Old Dominion. The Roadrunners will take on the 49ers at 6 p.m. (CT) on Friday before a 12 p.m. (CT) matchup with the Lady Monarchs two days later.

UTSA (2-8-1, 1-0-1 C-USA) snapped a seven-match winless streak last Sunday with its 2-0 victory against Rice. It was the program’s first-ever C-USA victory and the first against the Owls in four tries. The Roadrunners defense did not allow a score in either of their matches last weekend to run their scoreless streak to 230 minutes. Goalkeeper Bubba Makela recorded her second and third shutouts of the campaign and tallied nine saves en route to her first C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor. The Mukilteo, Wash., native is the first freshman to earn the conference’s weekly award this season and she continues to lead the league in saves (55).

The 49ers (6-4, 1-1 C-USA) split a pair of matches last weekend with a 2-0 triumph at FIU before a setback at East Carolina by the same score. Charlotte ranks fifth in the league with just 0.90 goals allowed per match. Goalie Alex Kubrick has allowed just seven goals in nearly 750 minutes of action, but the senior left last Friday’s win with the Panthers in favor of Annika McHenry, who then took the loss against the Pirates. Jessica Ryan leads the squad and is tied for 10th in the conference with four goals, while Amanda Jones is second on the team with seven points on three goals and an assist.

Meanwhile, the Lady Monarchs (0-8-1, 0-2 C-USA) will host East Carolina on Friday night in search of their first win of the campaign. Old Dominion has received one goal apiece from Devin Dougherty, Jessie Klamut, Taylor Smith and Jackie Stroud, while goalie Meredith Lenox owns a 1.94 goals-against average. ODU has allowed 2.11 goals per match and have been outscored 5-0 in their opening two league contests.

UTSA will be facing Charlotte and Old Dominion for the first time.
