UTSA to open WAC Tournament against I-35 rival Texas State on Wednesday
SAN ANTONIO — Fifth-seeded UTSA will open play at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament on Wednesday against No. 4 Texas State. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Lady Techsters Softball Complex in Ruston, La.
The Roadrunners enter their 15th postseason conference tournament with a 26-24 overall record and they posted a 9-12 mark in WAC play this spring. Meanwhile, the Bobcats (16-36) won 10 of 21 league outings, but they were swept by their I-35 rivals to open the conference slate from March 22-23. It marked UTSA's first sweep of Texas State since 2004 and it was the first road sweep in 17 years. Vivian Tijerina collected five hits, including a double, and three RBIs in the series to earn WAC Hitter of the Week honors.
The winner of Wednesday’s contest will advance to face WAC Regular Season Champion San Jose State (39-15) at 11:30 a.m. the following day, while the loser will either play No. 2 New Mexico State, third-seeded Louisiana Tech or No. 6 UT Arlington at 7 p.m. on Thursday in an elimination game.
