UTSA finishes in 13th place at Louisiana Classics
LAFAYETTE, La. — Led by a final-round 73 from Ryan Werre on Tuesday, the UTSA men’s golf team finished 13th at this week's 28th Louisiana Classics, which was contested at Oakbourne Country Club (par 72/6,898 yards).
Werre turned in the Roadrunners' low round of the tournament on Tuesday to help UTSA leap past Western Athletic Conference foe Louisiana Tech in the team standings on the final day after carding a nine-over 297 and they finished the 54-hole event at 913.
The junior from Canada bounced back from his first two rounds and tied for 48th at 12-over-par 228 (76-79-73).
Garrison Lackey led all Roadrunners in the two-day event with an 11-over 227 (75-77-75) to finish in a four-way tie for 44th in the 84-player field. J.J Lindsey turned in a three-over 75 and finished tied for 52nd at 229 (76-78-75), Stanton Tondre carded a 79-80-74—233 to finish 68th and Brett Hogan tied for 69th after recording a 234 (79-76-79).
No. 20 Illinois shot an 866 to outlast No. 14 LSU (874) for the team title. LSU’s Zach Wright led all individuals with a seven-under 209 (66-72-71).
UTSA will return to the course next weekend at the Border Olympics in Laredo. The two-day tournament is scheduled to tee off on Friday, March 15.
