SAN ANTONIO — Ryan Werre tied for third place to lead UTSA to a fifth-place finish at this week's UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Oak Hills Country Club (par 71/6,765 yards).
Werre carded a two-over-par 73 in the final round and finished the 54-hole event at a season-best-tying two-under 211. The junior from Redcliff, Alberta, and Iowa State's Scott Fernandez were just three strokes back of runner-up Rodolfo Cazaubon of North Texas, who shot 70-68-70—208, and five off the pace established by individual medalist Kyle Jones of Baylor, who turned in a tournament-low 67 on Tuesday to cap off a seven-under 206 (69-70 on Monday).
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners finished fifth in the team standings in a tight race among the top five squads, which were separated by just 11 strokes.
No. 44 Oklahoma (862) edged No. 36 North Texas (863) by one shot for the team crown after firing a four-over 288 on Tuesday, four better than the Mean Green’s 292.
