UTSA to square off with I-35 rival Texas State in regular season finale on Sunday
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will close out its regular season at home on Sunday when it hosts I-35 rival Texas State at 1 p.m. The Roadrunners can clinch a bid into next week's Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament with a victory.
UTSA (3-11-2, 2-3-2 WAC) is coming off a 2-1 win last Sunday at New Mexico State. Junior Maria Jose Rojas, who also scored in last Friday’s match at Denver, provided the game-winning goal against the Aggies, which was her team-leading fourth of the campaign. Freshman Simone Boye continued her strong season with an assist on the play and the Regstrup, Denmark, native’s eight points (three goals/two assists) rank second on the team.
The Bobcats come to the Alamo City with a 6-11-1 overall record and 3-4 mark in WAC play. Head coach Kat Conner’s team is led by sophomore Tori Hale, whose 16 points (five goals/six assists) rank fourth in the WAC. Senior Serena Hines (three goals/five assists) and freshman Lynsey Curry (four goals/two assists) help fuel a Bobcats offense that averages 1.22 goals per contest. Meanwhile, junior Natalie Gardini has made 61 saves in nearly 1,350 minutes between the pipes this fall.
The all-time series between the rvials is tied at 2-2-2 and Texas State won the last matchup, 3-1, on Oct. 9, 2011.
