SAN ANTONIO — Senior Stanton Tondre carded his second two-under-par 70 of the tournament to help guide UTSA to a seventh-place finish at the fourth annual Lone Star Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Hill Country Resort Golf Club (par 72/6,931 yards).

Tondre, who entered the day in a tie for fifth, carded four birdies en route to matching his season-low round. His 54-hole total of two-under 214 put him in a four-way tie for second and he was just two shots off the winning pace set by North Texas' Rodolfo Cazaubon, who held on for victory despite a final-round 74.

The Castroville native helped the Roadrunners finish with a final round 300 and three-day total of 25-over 889. That was just one stroke behind Texas State (888), three back of Arizona (886) and four behind Central Arkansas (885) for fourth.

No. 46 Houston completed a remarkable comeback to overtake No. 35 North Texas. The Cougars carded a 13-under 275 to edge the Mean Green, who fired a three-over 291 in the final round. Houston finished at two-over 866, four shots ahead of North Texas (870). Denver was third (881).

Junior Ryan Werre and freshman Brett Hogan finished in a tie for 29th at eight-over 224 after both recorded 77s in the final round. Sophomore Garrison Lackey tied for 54th after bouncing back with a 76 to close out a 233 that included a 75 and 82, while senior Taylor Koser finished 73rd (244=82-76-86).

Freshman J.J. Lindsey was the top finisher of the nine individuals competing in the 84-player field. The Adkins native followed a pair of 72s in the opening two rounds with a 74 and tied for 12th at two-over 218. Meanwhile, sophomore Reed Stegall tied for 62nd (235=80-78-77).

UTSA will wrap up its fall campaign next week at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. The two-day tournament is slated to tee off on Monday, Oct. 22.
