SAN ANTONIO — UTSA outshot Louisiana Tech 20-8, but Laura LeFevour’s goal in the 97th minute gave the Lady Techsters a 1-0 overtime victory at UTSA on Sunday.

Despite playing with just 10 players over the final 41 minutes, Louisiana Tech improved to 11-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in Western Athletic Conference play, while the Roadrunners fell to 2-10-2 (1-1-2 WAC).

UTSA appeared to grab the upper hand in the third minute when junior Anka Grotle’s header found the back of the net, but the Bremanger, Norway, native was whistled for being offside. The Roadrunners offense produced eight shots in the opening period, while holding the Lady Techsters to just two, but they could not get on the scoreboard.

The trend continued in the second half, as Corina Brown kept UTSA scoreless by recording four of her six saves in the period.

Emily Brennan was whistled for a red card in the 56th minute after drawing a yellow earlier in the match and Louisiana Tech was forced to play short-handed the rest of the way.

However, the Roadrunners did not capitalize and the contest remained scoreless through regulation.

With time winding down in the extra session, LeFevour found some open space inside the penalty box after passes from Andrea Weng and Heather Fitzgerald and beat UTSA goalie Katarina Pus for the game-winner. LeFevour’s third goal of the season gave the Lady Techsters their eight win in their last 10 outings.

Four players ─ juniors Laylla da Cruz and Maria Jose Rojas, sophomore Liv Nyhegn and freshman Kalena Ka’eo ─ recorded three shots apiece to lead the Roadrunners, who played in their third overtime contest in five WAC matches.

UTSA will return to the road next week for an Oct. 19 tilt against Denver (10-1-4, 2-0-2 WAC).
