SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to College Station on Saturday night in search of its first win of the season when it squares off with No. 12 Texas A&M at 7 p.m.
The Roadrunners (0-2) will return to the pitch for the first time since their home opener on Aug. 19 when Dayton handed the squad a 5-1 defeat. Freshman Simone Boye scored her first collegiate goal off a feed from senior Lindsay South in her lone shot of the match. The Birds started six freshmen against the Flyers, which was the most since a match at Utah State on Sept. 18, 2008. Frosh Katarina Pus and Whitney Whitlow also have started both contests this season.
The Aggies (1-1) will be playing in their third match of the week after splitting a pair of contests in Southern California. Texas A&M opened its 2012 campaign on Monday with a 2-1 win at UC Irvine before dropping a 1-0 decision at San Diego two days later.
Eight starters and 11 letterwinners return from last year’s team that went 16-6-2 and ended the season with a No. 21 NSCAA ranking. Leading the returners is sophomore Kelley Monogue, who registered 47 points on 19 goals and 9 assists as a freshman. The McKinney native provided the game-winning goal in Monday’s win against the Anteaters.
Texas A&M leads the all-time series, 2-0, including a 3-0 win in the last meeting between the teams on Aug. 29, 2009.
